While announcing an important decision about abortion, the Supreme Court said that a woman does not need her husband’s consent for abortion. The Supreme Court gave this decision while hearing a divorcee’s plea.

The Supreme Court said that any adult woman has the right to decide to give birth to a child and to have an abortion. The court also said that during this time it is not necessary for the woman to get her consent for her husband.

In his petition, the husband had accused the former wife, mother and father of the woman and two doctors for ‘illegal’ abortion. The petitioner had filed an objection to the abortion without his consent. On which he had an objection that the wife did not take her opinion in such a crucial decision. On this, the Supreme Court has given the verdict in the right of woman.

Husband and wife remain separate from the past. On which the Supreme Court said that considering the tense relations between husband and wife, the decision of the woman to abort is legally valid. Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court also rejected the petitioner’s plea and said that the decision of abortion could be entirely done by a woman.
