Education Loan

This is regarding education loan repayment. My education loan was default and my cibil score has been affected more than a year back without any intimation. Recently i have got a call from bank regional office asking me about my plan for repayment. Now i have few doubts before i go form my loan settlement. Bank representative clearly told even if i settle the entire amount there will not be any change on my cibil score. I was 17 years old when my father applied for my education loan and it has been dispatched in singe DD. It was never later been updated or any agreement done under my name after i turned 18. I would like to understand is this legal to penalize my cibil score since i have not taken any legal ownership of repayment. Disclaimer: I am ready to repay my loan but i need to know if i could get credit score straightened out.
