Financial Embezzlement

I worked with a Institutions who's head office is in Delhi due to my personal reasons I have done some financial embezzlement where the amount is not more than 53000 and after my resignation they found it and said they will file a formal police complaint against me. I begged them will repay it back immediately but I'm not getting proper response from them. I said I will pay it if they give me approval and amount to be paid. what should I do and will I land in jail for this? I do not want to spoil my career I feel guilty and I'm ready to pay them back.
