Maintenance Due By Previous Owner

We purchased a Plot in the Layout, There is Maintenance due of 1.4L to the Layout Association. The owner has agreed to pay the Maintainance by himself before plot registration. Once registration has completed, he collected his payment. And now he turned us back and denied payment of the Maintainance due. Now Association is asking us to pay the due. Is there any way to send notice by the court to the previous owner. We have even mentioned in the Sale deed that "any maintenance dues will be cleared by the Vendor". Please provide the suggestion.
