You have not mentioned about the terms and conditions of your Rent Agreement. But what I understand that since you remained in the possession of the tenanted premises. thus the landlord is showing his entitlement for the rent for the period. But if both the parties have mutually agreed for termination of the Rent Contract then the landlord is not entitled for the recovery for that period.
