Key Sections from the Consumer Protection Act

According to Section 2-

(5) defines and explains what "complainant" means— a consumer; or any voluntary consumer group legally registered under the law; or the Central Government or any State Government; Central Authority; or multiple consumers, where there are numerous consumers who carry the same interest; or in the unforeseen scenario of death of a consumer, his/her legal heir or legal representative; or if when the age of the consumer is less than needed i.e. of a consumer being a minor, his parent or legal guardian;

(6) talks in detail about the term “complaint” and what is its definition, the criteria, and various explanations.

(7) lays grounds and description of what and who is a “consumer”, roughly speaking anyone who has paid to buy or avail a service from a shop/company/corporation.

(8) "consumer dispute" means a conflict where the person against whom a complaint has been filed, denies or challenges the allegations stated in the complaint.

(iii) the right to be assured, wherever possible, access to a variety of goods, products or services at competitive prices;

(iv) the right to be heard and to be assured that consumer's interests willreceive due consideration at appropriate fora;

(v) the right to seek redressal against unfair trade practice or restrictive trade practices or unscrupulous exploitation of consumers; and

(vi) the right to consumer awareness;
