Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms, it is a forum where disputes/cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled/ compromised amicably. Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

lok adalats have been framed for amicable settlement between the parties. if your friend has really 'cheated' (that being the allegation) then he can use this forum to return/ satisfy the complainant. if he's the complainant, then he may try to get the monetary claim and compensation to the fullest without insisting in the punishment of the accused.
