As I find your matter, there is no illegality on your part but according to you there may be some fault leading to such problem but that does not make your case unlawful. You are in possession of your land and enjoying it, but, to address the problem for any need in the future ,you may propose for mutual settlement with your opposite party .Your opposite party has no valid case against you.

Since you are bona fide purchaser and your intentions never remained bad to grab the land. Therefore, under such circumstances you are only left only with one option to say that since long you are valid, legal and uninterrupted possession of land since more than 12 years, hence, you are owner in possession by way of adverse possession.
