Immediately a legal notice have to be sent by lawyer for cheque bounce. Notice limit is 30 days only from date of memo. Your so called roommate friend will most probably take defence that you stolen his cheque and did fake sign.

Hi, First and foremost, you need to send a legal notice demanding repayment of money. If he doesn't comply, then proceed to file a case under Sec. 138A of NIA. If you like my answer, please rate me.
